Yes, You Need A Headshot!
We all know the popular saying that “ you never get a second chance to make a first impression.” Your headshot is often that very first impression. The way a person meets you, or gets an idea of who you are before actually meeting you. It isn’t just a nice photo with good lighting and a flattering angle. It’s a visual handshake and a first hello. Most people need headshots so….you have no choice in putting one up and putting yourself out there but…it is showing others “this is who I am. This is how I want to be seen.”
I know I’m putting a lot of pressure on this, but I do think it’s more important than we tell ourselves. Even in one shot…in one frame..your headshot is telling your story. Whether you’re applying for a job, launching a brand, submitting to a casting call, or updating your LinkedIn, your headshot is often the first thing people see. In a world full of scrolling and split-second decisions, that one image has to carry a lot of weight. It lets people know you are serious, you care about how you present yourself, and you took the time to show up. A great headshot also builds trust, and trust is the foundation of every opportunity.
Repeat after me…. A selfie is not a headshot
yes, cell phone cameras have come a long way, and taking a selfie is super convenient and ( cheap…I know you’re thinking its cheap and “good enough) but that’s not just a secret that you have, its not even one that’s just between us. This is about intention.
A selfie says “ This is me, quickly.”
A headshot says “ This is me, on purpose.”
Let that marinate a bit…… with the right photographer ( hey!) you’re not getting just a pretty picture. The mood, the lighting, the angles, it’s all tailored to you.
Now, on to the next excuse I often hear… Im not photo ready.
“ I’ll get headshots that don’t suck when I lose weight” or “ I’ll get them when I fix my hair” oh! and…. “ I’ll get them when I feel more confident”
News flash: You are ready! You do not need to change to be worthy of being seen. Your headshot absolutely needs to reflect YOU….not the you that you are chasing, but the one that is already putting in the work and showing up.
